Perception may be the only reality at first. However, it's also like dating someone who you perceive is amazing at first, only to wake up one day and wonder what you were thinking back at the beginning. A strong brand becomes strong, only when reality matches perception. Otherwise, you're always looking for the next sucker to walk around the corner. Maybe "be who you say you are" is appropriate too.
